About Us

We are a community-based, non-political, not-for-profit organization, established in 1972 as the Tasmanian Environment Centre.

Practical Pathways to Sustainable Communities

A community within which government, business, industry, educ ation, community groups and individuals work in partnership to continually improve Tasmania's environmental and social sustainability.

We are working throughout Tasmania to:

  • raise community awareness about living sustianably in an urban environment
  • take action through partnerships with government, business and households
  • support the adoption of sustainable practices
  • maintain and enhance our local natural environment.

We provide:

  • A free sustainable living information service
  • Organisation and facilitation of seminares, workshops and conferences
  • An extensive environmental resource collection for use by the community and schools
  • Community environmental education materials and services
  • Support for community gardens and community groups
  • Office and administrative support for groups engaged in environmental care work.

We organize:

  • Tasmania's Sustainable Living Expo
  • Seminars on sustainable living
  • Practical workshops and tours to highlight urban sustainability issues including energy efficiency, water conservation, transport and backyard biodiversity.
